AUDIO-TECHNICA SURFACE MOUNTING MICROPHONES

Intended for mounting on a flat un-obstructed surface such as a table or wall, these microphones place a miniature capsule in the 'boundary layer' close to the surfaces, avoiding phase distortion due to multiple reflections of the source arriving at the microphone shifted in time. All use condenser capsules; both cardioid and omnidirectional patterns, within the hemisphere above the microphone, are offered. Most require phantom power, but battery only and battery or phantom-powered designs are included.

All types have low-impedance, balanced outputs unless otherwise stated.


PRO42

The PRO42 is a miniature condenser microphone with a hemi-cardioid (half-space cardioid) polar pattern, designed for surface-mounted applications in sound reinforcement and other demanding sound pick-up situations. The small size makes the PRO42 attractive for use in applications where minimum visibility is required. It has a 7.6 metre permanently-attached miniature cable with an XLR3-M connector. Response: 70Hz-14kHz, sensitivity 12.5mV/Pa. Requires 9-52V phantom power. Dimensions: 54.3mm maximum length x 36.6mm maximum width x 15.5mm high.


PRO44

This is also a condenser microphone with a hemi-cardioid (half-space cardioid) polar pattern, intended for surface mounting on conference tables, podiums, lecterns and other installed-sound uses. The high sensitivity 'ensures useful output and an excellent match' to most mixer, recorder and amplifier inputs, although in some circumstances it may overload sensitive input circuitry. The output connector is a miniature 3-pin male XLR. Maximum sound level: 114dB SPL, 1kHz, 1% THD. Response: 70Hz-16kHz, sensitivity 56.2mV/Pa. Noise: -66dB, 1kHz, 1Pa. Requires 9-52V phantom power. Dimensions: 90.5mm maximum length x 73mm maximum width x 15.5mm high.

Included accessories: 7.6 metre cable, with miniature female and XLR-3 male XLR connectors.


ATR4697-USB

A boundary microphone with USB output that has been designed for meeting rooms and teleconferencing. A 1.5m fixed cable terminated with USB-C connector, and included USB-C to USB-A adapter, give the omnidirectional boundary mic the ability to be connected to compatible computers, tables, and smartphones. The condenser capsule has a frequency response of 50-15,000Hz and a full 360-degree pickup. Requires 5V DC power.

U841A

This is an omnidirectional condenser design with a separate power module that may be operated either by a battery or phantom power. Designed for surface-mounted applications such as 'high-quality sound reinforcement, professional recording, television, conferencing and other demanding sound pickup situations', the U841A 'delivers exceptionally intelligible audio reproduction in a super-compact, low-profile design'. The heavy die-cast case and silicon foam pads on the base minimise coupling of surface vibration to the microphone. It is permanently attached to a 7.6 metre cable fitted with a miniature XLR connector. This connects with a belt-mounted power module which operates on a 1.5V AA battery (1200 hours, alkaline) or 11-52V phantom power. The power module has a filter which may be switched in to introduce low-frequency roll-off, 80Hz, -18dB/octave and a 3-pin male XLR output connector. Response: 30Hz-20kHz, sensitivity 11.2 mV/Pa. Dimensions: 65 x 15.1mm (diameter x height), microphone, 84 x 63 x 22mm (h x w x d), power module.

U841R

Designed for recording, television and conferencing situations, this condenser, boundary microphone has been developed using technology from the U841A model. However internally mounted electronics eliminates the requirement for an external battery module. Power is provided by external 48V phantom power. Response: 40Hz-20kHz, sensitivity 17.7 mV/Pa. Dimensions: 65 x 15.1mm (diameter x height). Weight: 84g.

U851Rb

This is a condenser, boundary microphone supplied with an interchangeable cardioid capsule offering 'outstanding speech intelligibility and transparent sound quality for surface-mount applications' such as 'high-quality sound reinforcement, professional recording, television and conferencing'. The miniature XLR output connector swivels to allow the cable to exit from either the rear or the bottom of the microphone. The heavy die-cast case and silicon-foam pads on the base minimise coupling of surface vibration to the microphone; a filter switch inserts a low-frequency filter, 80Hz, 18dB/octave, to reduce the pick-up of ambient noise such as traffic, air-handling systems, room reverberation and mechanically-coupled vibrations. Response: 20Hz-20kHz, sensitivity 19.9mV/Pa. Requires 11-52V phantom power. Dimensions: 108mm length x 83.9mm maximum width x 23mm high. Weight: 253g. Available in black or white.


ES945 - Omnidirectional

The different versions of Audio-Technica ES945 include ES945O/XLR, ES945O/FM3, and ES945O/TB. All three versions are omnidirectional, low impedance, fixed-charge condenser boundary-microphones that has been designed for unobtrusive installation in ceilings, panels or tables.

ES945O/XLR is available in black or white (ES945WO/XLR) versions. It is terminated with 3-pin male XLR and requires 11-52V phantom powering. The microphone is water resistant to IPX4 and can be mounted to a surface by way of 23.5mm diameter hole using two supplied isolators (20.5mm diameter without isolators). The microphone has a diameter of 28mm and a total length of 69mm, to which 8.2mm appears above the surface.

ES945O/FM3 is available in black only. In addition to the audio specifications of ES945O/XLR, ES945O/FM3 version has a push mute switch and associated LED status ring. This microphone is also terminated with 3-pin male XLR and required 11-51V phantom power. This version is not water-resistant.

ES945O/TB3 is available in black or white (ES945WO/TB3) versions. It shares the audio properties of the ES945O/XLR, however it contains a power module with mini-XLR (TB3) output connector, and therefore doesn’t require phantom power. ES945O/TB3 includes a 7.6m TA3F to XLR cable for use with standard XLR inputs. The mounting hole diameter required for this microphone is 17mm with included isolators, or 14.5mm without isolators. This version is not water-resistant.

ES947 - Cardioid

Audio-Technica ES947 range of condenser boundary microphones includes ES947C/XLR, ES947C/FM3, and ES947C/TB3. There are similar to the ES945 models, with the same mounting arrangements, but they have a cardioid pattern.

ES947C/XLR is water-resistant to IPX4 standards. It requires 11-52V phantom power.

Frequency response: 70Hz – 8.5kHz. Impedance: 100ohms. Signal to noise ratio: 70dB, 1kHz at 1Pa, A-weighted. Dynamic range: 110dB, 1kHz at maximum SPL. Maximum input level: 134db SPL, 1kHz at 1% THD. Weight: 62g. Dimensions (WxDxH): 26 x 30 x 69mm

ES947C/FM3 has a LED status light and mute switch. This model is not water-resistant and required 11-52V phantom power.
