Jumbo is an understatement! These carbon-fibre booms have very much in common with the Quickpole fishpoles, (see AMBIENT BOOM POLES (FISHPOLES) - Carbon fibre) also manufactured by Ambient Recording. Except these are very much bigger!
First spotted by Canford at a continental exhibition, soaring above surrounding stands, supporting a large stereo microphone, it is extremely unlikely that they would be used hand-held. A fully adjustable tripod is available, making them invaluable for orchestral, church organ or choral work (the “cathedral stand”, as broadcasters know them), either in the studio or on location. Small video cameras may also be supported.
QP5190 length is 2.0m (closed), and 9.07m (full extension) where the boom can support a load of up to 1kg horizontally. QP6200 length is 2.1m (closed), and 11.0m (fully open)! Diameter of bottom section of QP5190 is 35mm, QP6200 is 40mm. All poles have a 3/8 inch mounting thread.
A 40.5mm diameter single piece 2.1m extension, QP210, is available to fit the QP5190 jumbo boom.
The tripod stand should be ordered with the appropriate adjustable angle joint clamp. Sandbags are available for use as counterweights for greater stability at full boom extensions. See MANFROTTO SAND BAGS AND COUNTERWEIGHTS. There is also an optional wheel kit for use on smooth surfaces.
