4G PHONES

NOMAD

NOMAD is the latest mobile phone hybrid from Glensound building on the success of the classic GS-MPI004(HD). NOMAD allows greater worldwide compatibility and full HD voice over LTE for territories that no longer have 3G services. NOMAD has a range of features including 4G VO-LTE, 3G UMTS, and 2G GSM compatibility, mic/48V/line inputs with adjustable gain, configurable on/off button on the input, 6.35mm headphone output, OLED screen, diversity aerials, auto answer, selectable background noise suppressor, and NANO SIM card. The OLED screen allows simple configuration and monitoring of call functions such as signal strength and caller ID, and the input now has a configurable on/off or cough button.

Using the same network provider, where HD Voice is available, on either end of the call allows 7kHz audio links to be made for perfect speech performance. Glensound HD Voice is an automatic feature available around the world on compatible mobile networks using 4G VoLTE or 3G UMTS. Connecting two Glensound HD Voice broadcaster’s mobile phones in the same country, across a compatible 4G VoLTE or 3G UMTS network, will give a clear 7kHz of audio bandwidth. HD Voice is an adaptive multi-rate wide band (AMR-WB), also known as G.722.2. This is the algorithm more commonly known as HD Voice. It offers significant advantages for broadcasters including doubling voice bandwidth over 2G GSM to 50-7000Hz or 2G narrow band speech codec at 300-3400Hz, 12.65kbit/s or higher coding bit-rates provide high quality wideband audio, and a better lower frequency response, down to 50Hz, gives for a more natural sounding voices. Glensound HD Voice does not require the data network on 3G UMTS.

Calls can be locked to 2G, 3G or 4G only, with any calls made on HD Voice automatically dropping down to 2G when moving outside a signal area without disconnecting the call. NOMAD also operates as a standard 2G mobile phone, and with advances in performance and noise reduction capabilities found on the NOMAD, improvements in call quality can still be heard. The line output of NOMAD can bet set for a true balancing unit with just the isolated remote end audio, or it can be mixed with the input for a complete programme feed.

Powering options include 6 x AA batteries for 5 1/2 hours connected run time, standard DC input, or a USB-C power input.

LODGE

Glensound Lodge is a 19-inch rackmount version of the NOMAD mobile phone hybrid. It offers greater worldwide compatibility than older models, along with full HD voice over LTE for territories that no longer have 3G services. Lodge is available in three versions, each with a different number of phone modules:

Lodge 1 1x phone module
Lodge 2 2x phone modules
Lodge 3 3x phone modules

Lodge Module is an option that allows the user to add additional phone modules to Lodge 1 or Lodge 2.

The feature set is the same as NOMAD, with the exception of 19-inch rackmount form and number of phone modules.

GS-MPI005HD MKII

abgekündigt

Glensound’s GS-MPI005 and GS-MPI005HD mobile phone racks have been popular with broadcasters and can be found in daily use in outside broadcast trucks and studios around the World. GS-MPI005HD MKII is an upgraded version of that popular model. It is a mains powered, 1U rackmount unit that can be fitted with up to two mobile phones featuring professional audio interfaces for connecting broadcast audio equipment to cell phone networks.

Two versions are available, one with single mobile phone, and one with two:

GS-MPI005HD MKII/1 Single mobile phone
GS-MPI005HD MKII/2 Two mobile phones

GS-MPI005HD MKII looks different to its predecessor as it has touch screen colour displays for each phone module fitted. A GS-MPI005HD MKII TH traditional telephone handset is an optional interface that allows an operator to communicate off air before handing the call over to broadcast. The handset interface can also dial and answer calls. The audio to and from the handset is separate from the audio to and from the broadcast outputs and an operator can make or answer a call using the handset and then transfer (divert) this call to the broadcast circuits. If a call is currently being routed to the broadcast circuits then it can be transferred to the handset.

As many broadcasters have already adopted Dante (and some AES67) as their network audio infrastructure of choice Glensound designed the GS-MPI005HD MKII to allow an optional GS-MPI005HD MKII NC Dante/AES67 module to be fitted to allow full AoIP connectivity of both the broadcast and off air ‘handset’ audio circuits. Each phone has five loops for connection to external equipment. These can be set as either inputs or outputs. The inputs can be used for things such as answering/ending an incoming call, turning the sounder off, diverting the call between broadcast and handset, and setting the outputs to indicate an incoming call or to show when a call is in progress.

GS-MPI005HD MKII is fitted with twin diversity antennas which provide improved signal reception and range when operating on 4G LTE networks.

Glensound HD Voice does not require the data network on 3G UMTS.

The front panel touchscreen display is provided for each mobile phone fitted. Each touchscreen allows the operator to make and receive calls and transfer the call between the broadcast circuits and telephone handset. A detailed setup menu is also accessible via the touchscreen.

Frequency (EU): Bands 20, 8, 3, 7 and 1 (800, 900, 1800, 2600 and 2100 MHz), LTE (4G); Bands 8, 3 and 1 (900, 1800 and 2100 MHz), UMTS (3G); Dual Band (900 and 1800 MHz), GSM (2G). Voice support: HR, FR, EFR, AMR narrowband and AMR wideband (HD Voice); LTE (Via VoLTE (Voice over LTE)) and CSFB (circuit-switched fallback).

3G PHONES

Glensound HD Voice Broadcasters' Mobile Phones make it possible to use the 3G UMTS network as an audio link, with a bandwidth of up to 7kHz, for broadcast applications. The increased bandwidth is more suitable for live reporting applications as well as higher-quality IFB and talk back applications. Should a 3G network not be available, they will also act as a normal quad-band 2G GSM phone. They have balanced, line-level connections, with XLR connectors, for ease of interfacing to broadcast mixers, recorders, or computers. The portable version also has a dynamic microphone input. The phones connect as a voice call, so will have the same quality of service as a normal mobile phone call. The call quality will remain constant over the duration of the call regardless of the number of other mobile phones being used in the area. As a result, they are particularly suitable for reporting in highly-congested mobile phone areas such as football matches or concert venues.

The phones connect to 3G mobile phone services, as well as 2G. When connected to a 3G service offering 'HD voice', they provide a bandwidth of approximately 7kHz; a substantial increase in audio quality compared to a 2G or PSTN phone. However, in order to take advantage of the increased bandwidth, the call must be received by another 3G phone using 'HD voice'. Glensound 3G phones can be used to connect to PSTN or 2G phones, but in these cases the bandwidth increase is lost.

In 3G UMTS mode, the standard version offers 900MHz, 1900MHz, and 2100MHz bands. An optional 3G UMTS version is available for compatibility in other parts of the world offering 850MHz, 1900MHz, and 2100MHz. In 2G GSM mode, they connect to any quad-band network at 850MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, and 1900MHz for international compatibility. Audio bandwidth is 50Hz to 7kHz in 3G mode or 300Hz to 3.4kHz in 2G. Audio circuits are shielded from radio frequency interference, so the self generated RF will not interfere with the audio.

A large LED flashes and a sounder, which can be switched off, rings to indicate incoming calls; there is a variable auto answer. A nine-memory phone-book offers access to stored numbers and a redial button can be used to call the last-called number. A 6.35mm A/B gauge headphone socket is available for monitoring. The balanced, analogue, (XLR) audio inputs and outputs have separate controls for level adjustment. The aerial is connected by a standard SMA socket; different aerials may be connected. Power is supplied by 4x AA batteries in portable units, or, optionally, an external DC source. Rack mounting models mostly have an internal switch-mode supply, some are available as alternative models which accept DC power.

2G PHONES

Glensound 2G phones connect to a mobile network and offer an audio bandwidth of approximately 3kHz. They can make a call to a another mobile phone or a PSTN phone number. With PSTN, the audio contribution can be accepted by an existing telephone hybrid, coupler or a phone-in system. Alternatively a Glensound portable or rack-mounting mobile phone can be used to receive the call, either at fixed premises, or on location, say in a outside broadcast vehicle.

The 2G models are suitable for areas where 3G 'HD voice' services are simply not available, or it is not possible to have a 3G 'HD voice' phone at both ends of the connection, or that the enhanced audio quality is not required, perhaps for a cue feed.

A large LED flashes and a sounder, which can be switched off, rings to indicate incoming calls; there is a variable auto answer. A nine-memory phone-book offers access to stored numbers and a redial button can be used to call the last-called number. GS-MPIFW - Rack mounting - With 2x 4-wire IFB comms circuits

abgekündigt

The phone section on the right of the front panel is similar to the phone module in the GS-MPI005, with the overload light absent. The front panel contains the dialling keypad with ten-number phone book and the slot for a SIM card. Two large square buttons are used to dial or hang-up a call, each with LED status indicators. Configurable auto answer may be selected. There are separate level controls for the input and output levels, +/- 10dB. A volume knob controls the level of headphone monitoring of the mobile phone call, connected through an A/B gauge, 6.35mm, jack socket to headphones with 200 - 2000 ohms impedance.

On the left, for use with the 'four-wire' 'IFB' circuits, there is a speaker and a 6.35mm headphone socket, with level control, for use with headphones of 200 - 2000 ohms impedance. Inserting a headphone jack mutes the loudspeaker. These are used to monitor a mix of incoming audio from the two four-wire talkback inputs. The programme input may also be mixed into these, using a rotary control. An LED indicates when programme audio is present. A panel-mounted microphone is adjacent to an XLR connection for an optional external dynamic microphone. The choice of the panel or external microphone is selected by a toggle switch. After internal gain adjustment, the selected microphone feeds a limiter and then to the talkback switching, feeding the four-wire outputs.

Two identical sections in the middle of the panel are used to feed cue audio back to the two four-wire outputs. This 'cue' may be either the external programme input, or the incoming audio from the mobile phone, or the incoming feed from the four-wire line, which can be fed straight back (foldback) to the outgoing feed. Each section has a rotary control to set the mix level of the incoming four-wire feed in the loudspeaker and headphones; an LED indicates when audio is present. A three-position toggle switch sets the source of the cue audio, programme, phone or foldback. A two position toggle turns the 'cue' on and off. A paddle switch has three positions; it locks in the upper one, sending the microphone signal continuously to the four-wire output. The lower position is momentary, performing the same function when held down. In the centre, any cue selected is fed to the output with no talkback. A further toggle switch selects whether the cue is 'cut' when the talkback key is operated, or the cue and talkback signals are mixed to feed the output.

The rear panel has a section for the phone, with the balanced line-level analogue audio connections, input at 0dBu, output with a maximum level of +13dBu, both using XLR connectors. The aerial connector is an SMA type. Again on the rear panel the programme input (0dBu, balanced) is a 3-pin female XLR. Two pairs of one female and one male XLR provide the two, balanced, four-wire inputs (0dBu) and outputs (+13dBu maximum) respectively. There is also a 9-pin D-sub connector for connection of indicators or external switching when talkback 1 and 2 are on. An IEC inlet takes 100 - 240V AC. RF power output: 2W. Dimensions: 486 x 208 x 44 (w x d x h)mm; 1U rack mounting. Weight: 2kg.

Included accessories: T-bar aerial, 2.5m cable.
Optional accessories: Mag-mount aerial, 3m cable.

This has a mobile phone and a digital telephone hybrid for use with analogue telephone lines (POTS). It offers a means of providing redundancy for an important link or line connection. There is only a single mono input and output: A rocker switch on the front panel selects whether these are connected to the mobile phone or the hybrid. The mobile phone section on the right of the front panel is similar to the phone module in the GS-MPI005, with the overload light absent. The digital hybrid is on the left side of the front panel. A keypad and a single on/off hook switch is used to dial and receive calls. A large green LED illuminates when connected and turns off when disconnected. A sounder, which can be disabled for studio environments, provides indication of incoming calls. There are separate level controls for the input and output levels of the hybrid. The switch to select which link - the mobile phone or the hybrid - is in use is a large paddle switch, located centrally. LEDs indicate which is in use.

The rear panel has a female and a male XLR providing the balanced, analogue, line-level, audio input (0dBu) and output (+13dBu maximum). The antenna connection to the mobile phone is an SMA type. An RJ11 socket accepts the connection to a standard analogue telephone. A screwdriver operated switch selects between 13 different country settings to set line impedance levels. An IEC inlet accepts 100-240V AC. RF power output: 2W. Dimensions: 486 x 223 x 44(w x d x h)mm; 1U rack mounting. Weight: 1.78 kg.

Included accessories: T-bar aerial, 2.5m cable.
