Suitable for on-location, handheld, interview work, this selection includes both omnidirectional and cardioid designs, both condenser and dynamic. Some models are specifically designed for news gathering, some are also of use for general purpose recording. Condenser types may all be battery-powered or phantom powered.


AT8004, AT8004L

These are omnidirectional, dynamic microphones, designed for on-location interviews and sports broadcasting. They offer 'exceptionally clear and natural reproduction' and have internal shock-mounting that minimises handling and cable noise. The omnidirectional polar pattern is 'ideal for reproduction of surrounding ambience'. The rugged housings with hardened-steel grilles stand up to field use. The AT8004L has an extended-length handle, to increase the 'reach' of the reporter, with room for a microphone flag. Output: Balanced, 3-pin male XLR connector. Supplied without cable. Impedance: 300 ohms. Response: 80Hz-16kHz, sensitivity: -51dB (2.8 mV) re 1V at 1 Pa. Dimensions: 150mm/240mm long, AT8004/AT8004L, 35.8mm head diameter. Weight: 160g/215g, AT8004/AT8004L.

Suitable for 'interviews, pickup of audience reaction, and musical events' this is a condenser microphone with an omnidirectional polar pattern and an 'extremely smooth, extended response on- and off-axis' with 'low sensitivity to popping and overload'. It operates using a single 1.5V AA cell, 1200 hours alkaline, or 11-52V DC phantom power. A low-frequency roll-off filter may be switched in, 80Hz, 12 dB/octave. Output: Balanced, 3-pin male XLR connector. Supplied without cable. Impedance: 250/300 ohms, phantom/battery powering. Maximum input: 137dB/123dB SPL, phantom/battery powering. Suitable for 'general audio acquisition such as interviews' as well as 'acoustic guitar, percussion, overheads, vocals and more', this is a cardioid condenser design with 'high-SPL capability and wide frequency response'.It operates using a single 1.5V AA cell, 1200 hours alkaline, or 11-52V DC phantom power. A low-frequency roll-off filter may be switched in, 80Hz, 12 dB/octave. Output: Balanced, 3-pin male XLR connector. Supplied without cable. Impedance: 250/300 ohms, phantom/battery powering. BP4001

This is an omnidirectional version of the BP4001, a professional interview microphone with an extended-length handle, suitable for on-location interviews. The omnidirectional polar pattern provides a' natural reproduction of surrounding ambience'. Specifications are the same as the BP4001 except as follows. Response: 80Hz-20kHz, sensitivity -54dB (1.9 mV) re 1V at 1 Pa.

Suitable for 'close-up interviews, vocals, overheads, piano, and strings', the polar pattern of this cardioid, condenser design reduces pick up of sounds from the sides and rear, improving isolation of desired sound source. Proximity effect provides added warmth when used close up. It has a large protective screen that reduces 'popping' and sibilant distortion. A low-mass diaphragm 'ensures minimum distortion'. It operates using a single 1.5V AA cell, 1200 hours alkaline, or 11-52V DC phantom power. A low-frequency roll-off filter may be switched in, 80Hz, 12 dB/octave.
