Die zunehmende Verwendung von Netzwerk-und Datenkabeln zwischen Audio-und Videogeräten verlangt ein spezielles Kabel, das für diesen Einsatz entwickelt wurde, CAT 7-Kabel.

Dieses CAT 7-Kabel wurde genau für den rauen Audio-Videobetrieb entwickelt und konzipiert um genauso behandelt werden zu können, wie ein typisches Mikrofonkabel. Es wurde kürzlich von Waves Audio für ihre Waves Audio Soundgrid-Systeme genehmigt. Es hat eine hochflexible, einzeln abgeschirmte 4-Paar-Konfiguration mit einem Gesamtschirm, der die CAT 7-Spezifikation garantiert. Weiters hat das neue Canford CAT 7-Kabel einen robusten Aussenmantel aus Polyurethan, damit wird die hohe Flexibilität und die Robustheit des Kabels garantiert.

Dieses Kabel ist sowohl für standard RJ45 Steckverbinder (runde Version) und Neutrik EtherCon (NE8MX6-T), sowie für die meisten widerstandsfähigen RJ45-Entwürfe oder alle üblichen RJ45 Steckverbindern mit dem entsprechenden Kabeleinlass von passender Größe geeignet. Das Kabel ist auch für DMX512 Signale verwendbar.

Der CAT 7-Standard steht für eine Übertragung von bis zu 1Ghz und ist für Gigabit Ethernet, 1000Base-T und andere Hochgeschwindigkeitsanwendungen, sowie für digitales Audio geeignet. CAT 7 legt strengere Spezifikationen fest als diejenigen die für CAT 6 / 6A, insbesondere beim Übersprechen zwischen den Paaren definiert wurden.

Increasing use of network and data cables between audio and video devices on location calls for a Category 7 cable that is designed specifically for deployable use. Basic Category 7 cable is a relatively inflexible installation cable, and even the slightly more flexible patchcord type still has very poor handling characteristics in deployed (as opposed to patching) applications. This Category 7 cable has been designed specifically for the professional audio and video user, and is intended to handle like a typical microphone cable. It has recently been approved by Waves Audio for use with their Waves Audio Soundgrid systems. It has an extra-flexible individually screened 4 pair core structure with an overall braid screen that maintains Category 7 performance, then a rugged polyurethane outer jacket, to give superb flexibility and handling characteristics.

It is suitable for use with both standard RJ45 connectors (round entry version), the Neutrik Ethercon (type NE8MX6-T) and most other ruggedised RJ45 designs, or any other connector with a suitably sized entry gland. The cable is also suitable for DMX512 applications.

The Category 7 standard provides performance up to 1000MHz, and is suitable for Gigabit Ethernet, 1000Base-T and other high speed applications, as well as analogue and digital audio. Category 7 defines more stringent specifications than those applicable to Category 6/6A, particularly in crosstalk between pairs.
