The AMBEO VR MIC has been designed to capture signals from all directions for 3D audio reproduction in film, broadcast or virtual reality video with 360 degree content. With a wide frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz and maximum sound pressure of 130dB(A) at 1kHz, the four integrated +48V phantom powered cardioid Sennheiser KE-14 capsules are capable of capturing nuances required for demanding audio capture.
It is recommended that the microphone is mounted using the included Rycote suspension mount directly above or below the camera at a distance of 50cm for optimum performance. Direction of positioning is made easier with the 'FRONT UP' label which indicates the sound inlet direction - which should be congruent with the direction of the camera.
The four matched, pre-polarised, condenser capsules are positioned in a tetrahedral array to produce an Ambisonics A-format output. When the microphone is connected via the included adapter cable, (DIN12 to four 3-pin male XLRs), to Sennheiser's AMBEO A-B format converter plugin - available for VST, AU, and AAX formats for both PC and Mac - the signal is converted from Ambisonics A-format to a W, X, Y, Z representation otherwise known as Ambisonics B-format. Ambisonics B-format is a format whereby X, Y, and Z represent front/back, left/right, and up/down, whilst W provides the sum of all four KE-14 capsules.
