RM-3 - Analogue/AES3
Fostex RM-3 is a stereo powered, 10W + 10W D-class amplified, monitor speaker system with bar graph metering and headphone socket, taking a single unit of rack space, It has both balanced analogue and AES/EBU digital inputs and throughput outputs and accepts a wide range of AC power voltages.
The front panel has two grilles for the 110 x 40mm, magnetically-shielded loudspeakers with a display and controls in the centre. The display has two horizontal rows of LEDs indicating level for left and right signals. When the digital input is selected, the display provides peak metering with peak hold, where 0dB = 0dBFS. When the analogue input is selected, the display has VU characteristics in 4 modes: VU, VU + Peak, VU + Peak Hold and Peak + Peak Hold, with 0dB = +4dBu for the XLR, -10dBV for the jack inputs. Further LEDs show muting, input and output selection status.
An input push switch selects between analogue and digital inputs; an LED indicates when the system is monitoring the digital input, flashing if the signal is not locked. A second output select switch cycles between stereo, left only, right only and mono sum. Input and Output states will be remembered by the unit. Status LEDs indicate when left and right signals are being monitored, another indicates when they are summed to mono, and a third shows when the system is muted. When not muted, the volume control acts as a mute if held for one second. It is also a standby switch when held for more than five seconds. A 6.35mm stereo jack provides an output for headphones of eight ohms or greater, positioned next to the volume control. Inserting a jack mutes the speakers.
The rear panel has two combination 3-pin, female XLR and 2-pole jack connectors for the stereo analogue inputs (balanced and unbalanced respectively). The digital input is a 3-pin, female XLR. Throughput outputs are on two 3-pin, male XLR and two 2-pole jack connectors for stereo analogue (balanced and unbalanced respectively) and 3-pin, male XLR for digital. A switch provides termination for the digital throughput when not in use. Dip switches allow configuration of the system settings, including four display brightness levels, 4 meter modes, analogue reference level, sound source types (music or voice), volume when muted (silent or -20dB) and Auto Standby function (on/off) which allows the unit to go into a low-power standby mode, after 4 hours of levels below a certain amount; pressing mute (on volume control) will re-activate the unit. There is a power switch adjacent to the IEC power inlet.

RM-3DT - Analogue/Dante
Fostex RM-3DT has the same feature set as RM-3, however in place of analogue audio and digital AES3 audio connectivity, RM-3DT allows balanced analogue audio connection on 3-pin XLR along with Dante digital audio connection via single RJ45 socket.
