SONIFEX GRANDMASTER CLOCKS - AVN Series - AES67 AoIP

Sonifex AVN-GMC series are AES67, RAVENNA and AES-R16 compatible grandmaster clocks that have been designed for use with AoIP (audio over IP) applications. They use a combination of internal GPS receiver and PLL (phase lock loop) to synchronise other nodes within a given network by distributing time packets accurately via AES67, a subset of RAVENNA.

AVN series grandmaster clocks can slave to a separate clock input as an alternative reference source to the internal 50 channel GPS receiver that operates on 1575.42MHz (L1 band). Clock outputs, driven from the physical transceiver, can be used to provide media clocks for external equipment local to the AVN-GMC when it is in both 'master' and 'slave' states. The wordclock can operate at 32/44.1/48/96/176.4/192kHz.

There are three available versions in the AVN-GMC range; AVN-GMCS, which uses a TCXO (temperature compensated oscillator) to achieve accuracy of 1 part per million, with a worst case of 1 second gain/loss every 11.5 days; AVN-GMCOS, which uses an OCXO (oven controlled oscillator) to achieve accuracy of 0.01 parts per million, with a worst case of 1 second gain/loss every 3.1 years; and AVN-GMCCS, which uses SAC (quantum atomic clock) to achieve accuracy of 0.00050 parts per million, with a worst case of 1 second gain/loss every 63 years.

The rear facing panel houses all I/O connectivity including RJ45 Ethernet socket for RAVENNA connection, GPI/O on female nine pin D-type connection, 50 ohm BNC for sync input, 3x BNC for clocking outputs for wordclock, on 50 ohm BNC; AES-3id on 75ohm BNC; and variable PPS on 50ohm BNC - in which the unit can act as a clock master to distribute a reference frequency to test and measurement equipment. A GPS input on SMA socket is positioned to the right of the BNC outputs and can be connected to an active or passive antenna such as the AVN-GPS5. A T1AL fused 85-264V AC IEC power input and 12V DC input for optional accessory AVN-DC150 are positioned to the right side of the rear facing panel.

The front facing panel housed a brightness controllable OLED display that allows navigation in conjunction with a jog wheel, as well as vital information including GPS presence, number of satellites received, output sample rates, sync tape, and profile type. UTC time is displayed as standard however this can be adjusted to show local time by adding a time offset. Daylight saving can be activated by entering Spring Forward and Fall Back dates. There are also multi-coloured indicators for Ethernet link status, GPS status, Sync In, Lock, Master state, AC PSU and DC PSU. These change between green, yellow and red depending upon status. A power button is located on the right side of the front panel as well as a recessed reset button.
