This useful device provides the facility for up to ten short, continuously-repeated messages, followed by line-up tone, to identify and ‘hold’ programme lines and channels, in a 1U rackmount enclosure. A built-in microphone (with compressor and limiter) or an external line level input, makes recording of a message, up to 20 seconds long, straightforward from either the front panel or remotely. A built-in loudspeaker unit and headphone output socket allows front panel monitoring of the channels, via listen level controls.
If less than 20 seconds are recorded, the remaining time is filled with 1kHz 0dBU (bridging load) line-up tone. On playback, 4 seconds of the same 1kHz tone is added after the recorded message. The messages are held in non-volatile memory, so it is retained even in the absence of power.
The front panel offers labelling points for identification of designation and buttons to activate recording, identification playback or monitoring/listening for the recording on each of the ten channels. A flashing 4x LED PPM indicates signal presence on playback and recording. Red, green and yellow LEDs illuminate to show the status of each channel. Additionally, each channel offers rear panel remote control of record or playback operation. Input: Dimensions: 1U(h). Power: 100-250V AC.
Q: How many audio engineers does it take to change a light bulb?
A: “One, Two, Testing... One, Two... One, Two...” – unless one of them has a Line Ident Unit!
