A line level automatic level control device intended for noise control applications. If the average operating level of the incoming signal is below the internally set threshold, the AVC2 has no effect. If the average level is exceeded the unit will reduce the output level by fading in discrete 3dB steps, indicated on a LED bar graph indicator on the front panel. At maximum input level the output will actually be lower than the normal level. An input clip indicator is also provided. The attenuation is gently reduced as the input signal is reduced. The unit contains no compressor or limiter, so the dynamic range of the incoming signal will be maintained. The control circuit can be switched between linear and A-weighting.
The 1U front panel contains the warning “this unit will automatically reduce output level when threshold is exceeded. Rear panel connections are on XLR and to avoid abuse a security panel is provided. The operating levels are adjustable via holes in the front panel. It is possible to dim the signal by 20db if required. For best results adjust incoming level for minimum attenuation on meter” but no controls, so can be readily placed in the sound control position. An anti-tamper relay is fitted for added security and the unit has provision to connect an external time switch (not supplied) to switch between two output levels, e.g. for day and night use. Note that this unit does not measure the sound field. Additional measuring equipment may be needed during setup.
